Prepared to go

Well, tomorrow I go to Centre. Our van has been packed to maximum capacity with my possessions, I've said farewell for now to my friends from home, and the checklist has been completed. It feels like it's only been a very short time since I packed up and left my last residence, the dormitories at Carlbrook School, probably because it's only been 18 days since I moved out. I'm still pretty exhausted from that transition, and now here I am, getting ready to go on the road again. I'm excited about getting settled in one location for good.

I'm also really excited about the prospect of making new friends. It was pretty hard for my group of friends to leave my boarding school and immediately scatter across the country to their homes. It was also difficult to say goodbye to the friends I've had from home: those I grew up with before boarding school. Now I'll gain yet another category of friends: those from college. I'm looking forward to it, though. The people at Centre seemed so warm when I visited last spring.

Both my parents and I are disappointed that our schedule does not allow more time together, but I know they are also excited about getting me to college. They're used to holding down the fort at home without me, as they've been doing it for the past couple of years. Still, I wish I had some more time to spend at home. I live relatively close to Centre, though, so I should get to see them fairly often.

All in all, I'm excited and feel prepared to go. Going off to college is the culmination of a lot of hard work on my part and my parents' part, and I'm ready for it.
