One month in: well adjusted Well, it's been a little over a month since I've been in school here at Centre.
My roommate Christina and I have become good friends (good enough for me to go with her when she visits her home in Louisville for the weekend), and I've made friends with several of the girls on my hall as well as people in my classes.
Speaking of classes, those are also going well. My favorite professor is definitely Dr. Kinkade, who teaches humanities. He's very passionate about his subject and makes every class (even the really tough philosophy lectures) interesting and entertaining.
When I'm not in class, I'm usually at work-study, taking care of mice in the psychology lab. It's kind of lonely down there, but I enjoy taking care of the baby mice that are born and watching them grow.
When I do have spare time, I've been playing piano in the practice rooms in the basement of the music building, Grant Hall. I even took a few trips to the library and discovered a nice collection of sheet music ranging from Mozart to Gershwin! My horse Taz finally got transported from Florida and is now staying on my aunt's farm in nearby Lawrenceburg. I'm really glad he's finally here because riding him helps me de-stress.
Of course one popular subject for all freshmen is the food. I'll admit, most days Cowan's dinner selection isn't the best, but there are several other places on campus that take flex-dollars (money designated specifically for meals) that are quite good, like the Grille, which serves sandwiches, burgers, and salads. Plus, my room has a refrigerator and microwave if I get really desperate!
I've really enjoyed getting to know people because as the weeks progress I see more and more people around campus that I know. While my group of friends at the moment is still small, I definitely feel at home already.
Although don't get me wrong, I've had my share of homesickness. Moving from somewhere as far away as Florida has been tough because nothing is familiar, but keeping in touch with my friends and family has gone a long way to keeping me optimistic about the rest of the year.
All in all, I've been busy with classes, work-study, and meeting new people. I'd say I feel pretty well adjusted to college life and can't wait to see what else it has in store for me!
