Top 10 things I LOVE... Top 10 Things I LOVE About Centre
(in no particular order)
1. Hearing church bells when I walk to and from classes, the dining hall, or practice rooms. It sounds trivial, but it really adds to the atmosphere!
2. Having professors who truly love their jobs. Each one of my teachers is excited about each and every lecture, which gets me excited about learning. While this may be coming from a "type A" nerd, I can truly say that there are few days when I don't want to go to class.
3. Feeling like people really care about me. From the hearing-impaired cook at Cowan who always signs "thank you" to me, to the people at the finance office who are willing to explain and walk me through the difficulties of student loans, I always feel like people at Centre genuinely want to help me.
4. The practice rooms. These are located in the basement of Grant Hall, and are open every day until midnight. There are multiple rooms with pianos free for playing. It's really great to go down there and unwind around 10:00 p.m. after a stressful day.
5. Work study. Sounds crazy, but it's true. I get to make my own hours, don't have to waste gas driving to work, and have really great co-workers/bosses. It's not a ton of money, but it gets me by. Plus I enjoy taking care of the lab animals.
6. My residence hall, first Evans. It consists of five rooms and nine girls, myself included. It's just big enough to feel like a dorm, but small enough to also feel like home. I love being able to just walk across the hall and hang out with my friends.
7. Department of Public Safety. When my car battery died, I called DPS who promptly gave me a ride to my car and jump-started it for me. Although often made the butt of jokes, DPS really is a valuable asset for students, one that I don't think people utilize like they should!
8. SNOW. Although Centre can't boast being the only college with snow, for a Floridian like me, it's still pretty awesome. I can't get enough of all the trees and lawns covered in white loveliness! (Although it isn't so lovely when it gets in your hair and shoes and proceeds to melt.)
9. Not having class on Thursdays. Although I have four classes in a row three days of the week, and back-to-back labs on Tuesdays, it's worth it to be able to relax and catch up on Thursdays.
10. Convocations. We get to hear professors from other colleges lecture about their research, see independent films about important social issues, and see spectacular performances by musicians and actors (many of them quite famous) for FREE!
