.) Hometown: Lexington, Kentucky. But I’m not a typical Lexingtonian—I’ve never been to Keeneland for a horse race and I’m not a follower of UK sports (it’s a crime, I know). I do live in horse country, so I guess I get one point for that.

.) Family/Pets: I live with my parents, my three younger brothers, and my two dogs, Scout and Trudy. Everyone gawks when I tell them I’m the oldest and only girl, but it’s really not that bad...I keep the boys in line! I'm curious, however, as to who will unload the dishwasher when I’m at Centre.

.) High School: I’ve gone to Sayre School since sixth grade. It’s a small private school in downtown Lexington, and runs from pre-K to 12th grade. There were 54 kids in my graduating class, so I’m used to small class sizes and getting to know my teachers. Having been in small private schools my entire life, I was definitely looking for a college that wouldn’t overwhelm me in size. I think Centre fits the bill!

.) Extracurricular activities: I’ve played soccer for over ten years, but I decided after my senior soccer season to hang up my cleats. The past year I’ve been coaching my 8-year-old brother’s recreational soccer team, which has been a blast, so I haven’t had much time to miss playing. When I get to Centre I might play for the recreational team...I’m just not sure yet! I also love to write, and worked on my high school’s literary magazine. I’m definitely looking to get involved with the newspaper or something similar in college.

.) High school career highlight: I spent five weeks of my summer between my junior and senior years at the Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program. It was such an honor to be selected to attend GSP, and I took many memories and lots of life lessons from the experience.

.) Favorite past "My CENTRE Lifer": Maureen; I like the way she laid out her journal entries. They were easy to read, and they gave me a good feel of what a typical day at Centre will be like. I especially like her "10 things I wish I knew before coming to Centre."

.) The thing you are most looking forward to about Centre: I’m excited to have a new start. I’m excited to meet new people and make new friends. And, as dorky as it sounds, I’m excited about my classes—I’m ready to take the classes I am interested in, and dump the stuff I don’t like (math...<cough, cough>...) with help from my AP credit.

.) Your greatest apprehension about college: I’m really close to my family, and I’m nervous about living away from them. Centre’s only 45 minutes from my house, but even being that far from my brothers is going to be a challenge!

.) The way your parents feel about you moving out: I think my dad would like me to live at home for the rest of my life. My mom says she’s excited for me, but I think she’ll miss having another girl around (but at least she’s got the dogs!).

.) Intended major(s) and minor(s): Although I’d like to keep my options open, I’ve got a pretty good idea about my major and minors. English has been my favorite subject since...well, forever. So I’d like to major in English, and take the minor in creative writing. Also, I LOVE French EVERYTHING, and I don’t want to loose what language skills I’ve learned thus far. So I’m thinking a double minor in French, if all goes well.

.) If you could bring one performer/group to the College's Norton Center for the Arts, it would be: John Mayer is my all-time favorite person in the world. I’ve seen him once, but I’d love to see him again!

.) Worst movie ever: Okay, here’s the story. So I’m with my friends (one other girl, two guys) and we’re deciding on a movie. I know the guys want to see You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, but the other girl and I have both seen the previews, and we are very much opposed. So I suggest What Happens in Vegas. We look up movie times and don’t give the guys another option. But then I feel guilty, imagining the two guys sitting through dinner anticipating Adam Sandler wearing short-shorts while cutting hair. So I break down and say, “Fine, whatever, we’ll go see your movie.” Long story short: you really, really don’t want to mess with the Zohan. The worst movie I’ve ever seen...and the only one I’ve ever walked out of (at the guys’ suggestion, in fact).

.) If given a million dollars to donate to an organization of your choosing, to what organization (for profit or not-for-profit) would you donate it: We had a dress code at Sayre. Every once in a while, we were allowed to pay a dollar for a “dress-down” (denim allowed) day. At the end of each year the lower school kids voted on which charity they’d like their dress-down money to go to. My third-grade brother voted for the one that built pipes to carry clean water to the villages in Africa. He was outvoted in favor of the animals at the zoo. I love the animals, but I’d have sided with my brother.

.) Favorite smell: Whenever my family and I get home from a long vacation, we walk in our house and it smells like new again. I don’t know if it’s the fresh air after the car ride with my brothers’ B.O. and nasty feet, but the new house smell is definitely one of my favorites.

.) If you could have any one question answered before you die, it would be: How did someone become bored enough to create all of the “Man Laws"? Really, I’m curious.

.) Person (living or dead) with whom you'd most like to have dinner. In addition, where would you go to eat or what would you cook for them? I would like to have dinner with Jane Austen. She was not only able to see through the pretenses and frivolities of her time, but was unafraid to write about it all! Her writing holds such truth, much of which is still relevant today. I bet it’d be a blast to take her to a party and have her dissect all of our social goings-on...I’d love to hear what she’d say!

.) If stranded on a deserted island, what would be the one non-survival item you'd want with you? Umm...how about a toothbrush? Who knows what I’d have to eat stranded on a deserted island.

.) If you had thought of it first, with what invention do you wish you could have been credited? The printing press. I love my books!

.) Describe yourself in a haiku (5-7-5) or other poetic form:
Loves to read and write
Always lends a helping hand
Lives life completely

.) Why did you choose Centre? If I had to choose one reason, it would be Centre’s study abroad program. Studying abroad is one experience I definitely don’t want to miss out on in college, and it’s one of the things I looked at most seriously when visiting colleges. Centre’s program blew me away. Beyond that, when I went to Centre for my overnight, I fell in love. I didn’t expect to like it—I never imagined that I would stay in Kentucky for school—but I found that I loved the feel of the campus, I loved the people, I loved both the academic and the social side of Centre. I think it will be the perfect place for me to spend my next four years!
