Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine ranked Centre 31st among
all U.S. private liberal arts colleges in the December 2010 issue.

“Wherever you look,” says Centre president John Roush, “the

Centre College has once again been named to Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine’s list of best value private colleges. Centre is ranked 31st among all U.S. private liberal arts colleges in the December 2010 issue of the publication’s 2010-11 rankings. This year, for the first time, schools are divided into two lists: top 100 liberal arts colleges and top 100 private universities.

Centre President John Roush notes that the College is regularly acknowledged as one of the nation’s best values:

“This is only the latest recognition of the outstanding value of the education Centre provides,” Roush says. “The exceptional return on investment of our learning experience has been noted by U.S. News and Princeton Review, among others, and Consumers Digest ranks Centre as the No. 1 value among the nation’s colleges. In addition, Centre’s programs of need-based financial aid and merit scholarships are among the most generous of any top national college. Selected from a pool of more than 600 private institutions, schools on the Kiplinger’s list were ranked by academic quality and affordability—with quality accounting for two-thirds of the total. Because liberal arts colleges focus on undergraduates and universities include graduate students, Kiplinger’s divides the schools into two categories. The rankings factor in both the data and the results of Kiplinger’s reporting. Swarthmore College returns to the top of the liberal arts list after a two-year hiatus, and Princeton University heads the private university list, nudging out the California Institute of Technology, which held the title for the past four years.
