Professor shines in 2010 Kentucky Governor’s Awards video

Powell Stephen Powell, who recently received The Artist Award by the
Governor’s Awards in the Arts, is featured in a new video
discussing his art and demonstrating how he creates his famous
masterpieces.

Watching Centre College professor of art Stephen Powell creating glass sculptures is like watching a magic show. And now, viewers everywhere have the opportunity to look on as Powell creates his masterpieces, discusses his craft and shares some of his favorite pieces with the world.

In a new video, created to honor Powell for having received The Artist Award by the Governor’s Awards in the Arts, Powell not only talks about his work but also demonstrates the process of blowing glass. Centre president John Roush and English professor Mark Lucas are also featured, sharing the many reasons why Powell is such a remarkable artist and so deserving of the award.

The Artist Award is the state’s highest honor in the arts and recognizes a lifetime achievement by an artist in any discipline who is a resident of Kentucky.
