Centre College recently launched its new athletics website — and the site has received great response from the public.
From its homepage, www.centreathletics.com, visitors to the site can access news stories, rosters and statistics for all sports teams, information about Centre’s athletic facilities and more, including schedules for upcoming events. More than forty percent of Centre students play a varsity sport at the College. This separate site dedicated to showcasing those athletes provides a more content-rich and engaging user experience for parents, alumni and other fans.
“Centre College has a rich athletics tradition, extending over 100 years, which our current student-athletes carry on proudly. This new website makes it easier than ever to keep current with the grit and determination they bring to each and every competition,” says Director of Athletics and Recreation Brian Chafin.
Chafin credits the Sports Information Department — Sports Information Director Mike Pritchard, Sports Information Intern Matt Montavon and Sports Information Fellow Seth Stogsdill — in large part for the successful creation of the new athletics website, which will allow Centre's sports fans to remain as up-to-date as possible with the Colonels.
“We’ve listed the upcoming schedule on the sides of pages in the past, but now we have a tab for the upcoming schedule as well as a tab for recent results,” says Pritchard. “Both of those tabs will also include links to live video, live stats, box scores, recaps, photos and more.”
The creation of a new athletics page will be significant for the College as a whole, much as the renovations to Sutcliffe Hall were in 2005, says men’s soccer coach Jeb Burch.
“The old Sutcliffe held the College's post office, arcade, athletic offices, two gyms, a restaurant in the basement and rooms with a few weights. It wasn't anything like today's Sutcliffe Athletic Center. And just like Sutcliffe needed a major facelift, the same could be said for our athletics website,” Burch says. “The new athletics website is another example of the positive change and growth going on at the College.”
Athletics department staff are especially excited about features the new website will offer, including multi-media options and better integration with Centre Athletics-related social media sites.
“I think the biggest thing people will notice is that the new site has more photos. From now on, most — if not all — stories will include a photo,” says Pritchard. “Another thing that is new is the ability to post videos. We don’t have anything up now, but we now have the ability to upload videos to the site in the future.”
