Service and diversity student leaders invited to campus for Martin Luther King Jr. celebration

At the open house event on Jan. 17, prospective students will learn about the many diversity leadership and service opportunities
available at Centre.
Those who attend the open house are invited to the College’s Norton Center for the Arts for a live performance by the American
Spiritual Ensemble beginning at 7 p.m. The concert is part of the
College’s Martin Luther King Day celebration.
On Monday, Jan. 17, Centre College will host a service and diversity open house, an event in which prospective students can learn virtually everything there is to know about community service and diversity at the College.
Registration for the event, held on Martin Luther King Day, begins at 11:30 a.m. in the Campus Center, followed by a service and diversity leadership luncheon held in the Nichols Dining Room in the Campus Center.
During the luncheon, student leaders from Centre’s Diversity Student Union and the College’s Bonner Scholars will speak with prospective students about leadership opportunities on campus. J.H. Atkins, assistant vice president for diversity education and associate professor of education, and Patrick Noltemeyer, dean of student life and director of community service and Bonner Program, will also be on hand to answer questions.
After the meal, President John Roush will address the attendees before they head out for guided campus tours.
Later in the afternoon, prospective students will have another chance to hear from current students. A panel discussion will take place at 2:45 p.m., during which Bonner Scholars and members of the Diversity Student Union will answer any remaining questions.
The open house event will conclude with a lemonade reception at 3:30 p.m.
All prospective students and their families are also invited to attend Centre’s annual convocation celebrating Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy. For this year’s annual event, the American Spiritual Ensemble will be performing in the College’s Norton Center for the Arts.
