It's open casting season in Centre's Office of Admission

June 2, 2011 By Adam Brown
mcl My CENTRE Life is a collection of unedited blogs authored by seven Centre College students. From academics to night life, the MCL bloggers post their candid thoughts about one of the nation's most highly regarded liberal arts colleges.

The College has officially opened the search for the 2011-2012 "My Centre Life" student bloggers. Incoming first-year students through rising seniors are eligible to participate in one of the most candid and exciting college student blogs on the Internet.

Modeled after the unedited formula employed at MIT, "My Centre Life" bloggers have 24/7 access to Tumblr blogs, which they use to share honest accounts of their individual Centre experiences without extensive revision from College administrators. But bloggers aren't exclusively content producers; they also interact with their audience as part of a social media team that regularly replies to questions and comments posted by prospective students on Facebook and other social media sites.

"For prospective students curious about campus culture at Centre, there's no better way to keep their finger on the pulse of student opinions, academic endeavors and daily life," says Adam Brown, Digital Recruitment Specialist. "In many ways, students selected to be a part of 'My Centre Life' become ambassadors for the College—the first faces many students associate with Centre."

To sweeten the deal—and make blogging even easier—the Office of Admission will allocate $400 for each blogger to purchase or contribute to the purchase of a digital device of their choosing. Bloggers will use their device to capture and report on their life as a Centre student (i.e. digital camera, digital camcorder, netbook, smart phone, etc.). Students selected to participate in"My Centre Life" will consult with the Admission Office to determine how their budget will be spent.

Candidates will undergo a thorough vetting process that will include a phone interview for finalists. Those interested, must fill out the application (click here). The application, which should take no more than 30 minutes to complete, includes a general biographical section; 10 fun, personality questions; and concludes with questions about how applicants might envision their blog. The deadline to apply is Friday, June 24th. All applicants will be notified of their status by July 15th.

Questions regarding the application process should be directed to Adam Brown at adam.brown@centre.edu.
