Centre welcomes 23 new faculty members

With the start of every school year, Centre welcomes new faculty members into its community. This year,
     14 full-time professors as well as nine part-time professors join Centre’s list of renowned and beloved faculty.



William M. Andrus, visiting assistant professor of art, makes the move from part-time to full-time faculty member after coming to Centre early in 2011. After receiving a B.A. in studio art at Centre, Andrus went on to study painting at the University of Kentucky, where he received his MFA.

Visiting assistant professor of history Cary W. Blankenship also makes the move from part-time to full-time faculty member at Centre this fall. Blankenship earned a B.A., two M.A.’s and a Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky.

James J. Bloom comes to Centre as a full-time assistant professor of art history. Bloom earned a B.A. at Dartmouth College and received both an M.A. and a Ph.D. from Duke University.

Full-time visiting instructor of education Danielle Dampier received a B.A. from the University of Kentucky as well as an M.A. and Rank I from Eastern Kentucky University.

Jennifer L. Goetz joins Centre’s full-time faculty as an assistant professor of psychology. Goetz earned a B.S. from Carnegie Mellon University and a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley.

Cynthia Isenhour comes to Centre as a full-time ACS Post-Doctoral Fellow in Environmental Studies. Isenhour earned a B.A. from Miami University, an M.A. from Colorado State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky.

Robert Murray will join the full-time faculty as a visiting instructor of history in the spring of 2012. Murray received a B.A. at Centre, an M.A. at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Kentucky.

Julie Park joins Centre’s full-time faculty as a visiting assistant professor of English. Park earned her B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of California at Irvine.


Stacey L. Peebles comes to Centre as a full-time assistant professor of English. Peebles received a B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.

Matthew O. Pierce joins Centre as a full-time visiting instructor of religion. Pierce earned a B.A. at Bryan College and is a Ph.D. candidate at Boston University.

Sebastian Reyes comes to Centre as a full-time assistant professor of Spanish. Reyes received an M.A. from the University of Pittsburgh and a Ph.D. from New York University.

Karen Roper joins Centre’s full-time faculty as a visiting assistant professor of psychology. Roper earned a B.A. at Southwestern University and both an M.S. and Ph.D. at the University of Kentucky.

Forrest Stonedahl comes to Centre as a full-time assistant professor of computer science. Stonedahl received a B.A. from Carleton College and an M.S. and Ph.D. from Northwestern University.

Ellwood Wiggins joins Centre’s full-time faculty as a visiting assistant professor of German. Wiggins earned a B.A. at St. John’s College, an M.A. at Johns Hopkins University and a Ph.D. at Yale University.

Megan Dailey joins Centre as a part-time professor of math. She earned a B.A. from Centre and an M.A. at the University of Kentucky, where she is currently a Ph.D. candidate.

Rebecca Fuqua comes to Centre as a part-time professor of education. Fuqua earned a B.A. and Rank II at the University of Kentucky.

Chrystal Grey joins Centre’s part-time faculty as a professor of anthropology and sociology. Grey earned a B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of Kentucky.


Lisa Grubisha comes to Centre as a post-doctoral fellow for Matthew Klooster and will teach biology part-time. Grubisha received a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin, an M.S. from Oregon State University, and a Ph.D. from the University of California.

Jonathan Hart joins Centre’s faculty as a part-time professor of chemistry. Hart earned a B.S. at Morehead State University and is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Kentucky.


Andrew McNeill will come to Centre as a part-time visiting instructor of government in the spring. McNeill earned a B.A. at Centre and an M.P.A. at the University of Kentucky.


Diane Arnson Svarlien joins Centre’s faculty as a part-time professor of humanities. She received a B.A. at the University of Virginia and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.

Liza Turner will come to Centre in the spring as a part-time visiting instructor of government. Turner earned a B.A. at Centre, an M.A. at Eastern Kentucky University and an ABD at the University of Kentucky.


Salvador Villagran comes to Centre as a part-time professor of art. Villagran earned a B.F.A at Laguna College of Art and Design and an M.F.A at the New York Academy of Art.
