On Wednesday, March 2, renowned religion scholar Marcus J. Borg will deliver the Humana Lecture “Telling the Story of Jesus Today.” The convocation is open to the public and will take place in the College’s Norton Center for the Arts at 7 p.m.

Borg, who serves as canon theologian at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Portland, Oregon, is the author of 19 books—many of which were best-sellers—and has been called “a leading figure in his generation of Jesus scholars” by the New York Times. He has appeared on NBC’s TODAY show and Dateline; ABC’s Evening News and Prime Time with Peter Jennings; PBS’s Newshour; NPR’s Fresh Air; and several National Geographic programs.

Known internationally for his work, Borg has often lectured overseas, and his work has been translated into 11 languages. Periodically, he leads pilgrimages to countries that are important to Christianity and other major world religions. These trips are offered by The Center for Spiritual Development, based in Portland. Recent journeys have been made to Turkey, Jerusalem and the Galilee, Ireland, Scotland and Greece.

Borg has been national chair of the Historical Jesus Section of the Society of Biblical Literature and co-chair of its International New Testament Program Committee; in addition, he has served as president of the Anglican Association of Biblical Scholars.
