U.S. News & World Report has just listed Centre among the 10
colleges alumni love most.

Centre alumni are consistently loyal to their alma mater. During
2007-2008 and 2008-2009, the years evaluated for the U.S.
News article, 56.7 percent of Centre alumni gave to the College.

U.S. News & World Report has just listed Centre among the 10 colleges alumni love most.

The top-10 slideshow (with commentary by Ryan Lytle) begins by saying that “most people look back on their college years fondly, but many alums also give back. These 10 schools benefit the most from alumni monetary donations.”

An accompanying article on the “Top 10 Most Loved Schools” (written by Katy Hopkins) makes the point that being an alum of a particular college is a more enduring experience than being a student.

“Because alumni status lasts forever, applicants should take a moment to consider the level of satisfaction among graduates when selecting a school,” Hopkins writes.

The reported percentages of alumni who donated to their alma maters reflect the average percentage of living alumni with bachelor’s degrees who gave to their schools during 2007-2008 and 2008-2009.

Lytle reports that “alumni of Centre College, located in Danville, Ky., are very generous to their alma mater. The college received monetary donations from 56.7 percent of its alumni.”

Among other institutions on the list are Princeton University, Middlebury College, Amherst College, Williams College and Davidson College.

In April 2010, Centre maintained its place among the top 50 national liberal arts colleges in the 2011 U.S. News & World Report rankings. Centre is currently No. 47 among liberal arts colleges, in a four-way tie with Dickinson, Gettysburg and Rhodes colleges.

Centre remains the highest nationally ranked Kentucky college or university on the U.S. News list.

Centre was also included on the U.S. News “Great Colleges, Great Prices” list for 2011, in the No. 26 spot. In addition, Centre is the only Kentucky school on the 2011 “Strong Commitment to Teaching” list (where it is in an eight-way tie for 9th).

Forbes magazine ranks Centre No. 1 among all colleges and universities in the South and 24th among all U.S. colleges and universities.
