Sundays. Get Centred is a contemplative Christian worship service held on Sunday nights at 10 p.m. in the candlelit sanctuary of the Presbyterian Church. This half-hour service of music, prayer, scripture readings, and silence is a great way to start the week.

Sunday, Oct. 17. One-year anniversary celebration of Saffron’s Funky Finds, located at 390 Whirl-A-Way Drive (near 84 Lumber), beginning at 1:30 p.m. Celebrate with food, fun, friends, and 20% off many items storewide.

Wednesday, Oct. 20. Psychic Fair. Student Activities is sponsoring a Psychic Fair from noon to 5 p.m. in the Ewen Room in the Campus Center. Open to the Centre community, the Psychic Fair will feature three psychics who will be performing palm and tarot card readings. Appointment sign-ups will be outside of Cowan on Monday, Oct. 18, and Tuesday, Oct. 19.

Thursday, Oct. 21. Witness for Peace luncheon. Daira Elsa Quinones will speak about the displacement of Afro-Colombians in Colombia’s ongoing war in the Ewen Dining Room during common hour. Monday, Oct. 25. CONVO: Jane Austen and Cognitive Science. 7 p.m., Vahlkamp Theatre. Professor Lisa Zunshine of the University of Kentucky will speak on how Jane Austen intuitively experimented with her readers’ theory of mind: that is, our evolved cognitive ability to explain people’s observable behavior in terms of their unobservable mental states.

Wednesday, Oct. 27. CONVO: Wood Energy and Improving Appalachian Forest Sustainability. 7:30 p.m., Vahlkamp Theatre. Grant Curry of ecoPower Generation will speak about the reasons for declining forest productivity in eastern Kentucky and how right-sized wood energy plants will provide the incentive necessary for landowners to improve the productivity of their forests for the benefit of future generations.

Thursday, Oct. 28. CONVO: Tokyo String Quartet. 8 p.m., Newlin Hall. Regarded as one of the supreme ensembles of the world, this string quartet performs on a group of renowed Stradivarius instruments.
