Wednesday, Nov. 17. The Physics Film Series continuesthe Richard Feynman film festival with QED
in New Zealand (Lecture 3: Electrons and Their Interactions).
These lectures at the University of Auckland by Nobel Prize
winner Richard Feynman were supposedly the basis for his
popular book, QED - The Strange Theory of Light and Matter,
and give a gentle introduction to quantum electrodynamics
by one of the most famous and charismatic physicists of the
20th century. Don't miss a chance to see this great lecturer
in action. All are welcome to view this film with us.
Refreshments are served at 4 p.m., and the film starts at 4:05

around Danville. Bring canned foods to the Campus Center
throughout Poverty and Homelessness Week. All canned
goods are being donated to Harvesting Hope Food Pantry.

Study Volcanoes in New Zealand, CentreTerm 2012! Meetings scheduled for Nov. 21 at 6 p.m. in Young 101 and
Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Young 101. Are you interested in
hiking around New Zealand on active volcanoes? Do you want
to take a course where all of the classes are outside (and where
it is summer in January)? Do you dare to do extracurricular
activities like bungy jumping or sky diving? Did you like the
scenery of the Lord of the Rings movies? If so, please attend
one of the meetings about the Physical Science of Volcanoes
Course. Note that these sessions will take place immediately
following the general information sessions for all study
abroad courses (in Weisiger 30 minutes before the New
Zealand information meetings). If you cannot attend the
meetings, please check out the course webpage.

Sundays. Get Centred is a contemplative Christian worship service held on Sunday nights at 10 p.m. in the candlelit sanctuary of the Presbyterian Church. This half-hour service of music, prayer, scripture readings, and silence is a great way to start the week.—Jeff Jones

Wednesday, Nov. 17. World Marketplace. Shop fair trade for the holidays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Campus Center's Ewen Room. Part of C.A.R.E.'s Poverty and Homelessness Week, this event offers affordable fair trade items like jewelry, housewares, scarves, games, and bags from all over the world. Items will be available from Serrv, Partners for Just Trade, and Bead for Life. Cash or check preferred.

Thursday Nov. 18. Dr. Judy Goldsmith from the University of Kentucky will be in Olin 122 at 4 p.m. to discuss graduate work in Computer Science. She will discuss applying for admission, paying for graduate school, how to succeed, and what the future looks like for those with advanced degrees in computer science. She will also talk about the UK program in particular. There will be refreshments before the talk. All students and faculty who have questions or are merely curious about these topics are cordially invited to attend.

Erika Voss, ‘12, will advance as one of three finalists in the Flute Society of Kentucky’s Collegiate Competition. She competed against 22 of the best flutists in the state, performing Syrinx, by Claude Debussy. Erika studies with Jana Flygstad. The final competition will be held January 14th in Louisville.—Barbara Hall
