Volunteers needed. CKEEP (Central Kentucky Economic Empowerment Project), a United Way initiative, provides annual free tax preparation and filing for low-income Kentucky families, often identifying substantial amounts of tax credits for some families. The Village Branch Library (located at 2185 Versailles Road in Lexington), is a completely bilingual Spanish/English public library and will be a weekly host for this service from Jan. 23 - April 26. The program will be held on Mondays, 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. Volunteers are needed that are available during the afternoon/evening shifts, making this a great opportunity for college students looking to put their Spanish skills to practical use. NO prior tax knowledge is necessary! Volunteers will attend a one-time official training by the IRS, certifying them to prepare taxes on behalf of qualifying clients. Training sessions will be offered regularly in Lexington, December through February. Interested students with reliable transportation may email swilcox@kyequaljustice.org to receive volunteer materials.
