Sunday, Sept. 2. Get Centred is a contemplative Christian worship service in the candlelit sanctuary of the Presbyterian Church every Sunday night. The half hour of scripture, prayer, music and silent reflection is open to all interested students, staff and faculty. Time/Place: 10 p.m., Presbyterian Church.

Monday, Sept. 3. Kentuckians for the Commonwealth. KFTC is a statewide organization working for land reform and environmental justice in local communities (now forming a Boyle County Chapter). If you are interested in joining local activists committed to protecting Kentucky's water, air, land and mountains, please attend. Sunday, Sept. 9. A New Harmony book discussion. An eight week series of discussions on J. Philip Newell’s book will be convened by Tim Noel. Newell is a poet, scholar, teacher and Church of Scotland minister widely recognized for his work in Celtic spirituality and passionate about seeking peace in the world and harmony among its spiritual traditions. Read the first chapter by Sept. 9. Time/Place: 4 p.m., the Presbyterian Church.

Wednesday, Sept. 12. The Presbyterian Church is offering an 8-week money-management program. The class will be led by Rosie Albright and will meet on Wednesday evenings. The cost is $45 per person and includes workbooks and other materials (a 50% discount from the regular cost). Sign up by calling 236-6692. Time/Place: 7 to 8 p.m., the Presbyterian Church.

Saturday, Sept. 15. Dancing with the Danville STARS. This event is presented by the Danville Schools Education Foundation. This will be a great fundraising event which uses the profits for teacher mini-grants. We encourage all Centre faculty, staff, and students to support our very own J.H. Volunteer Opportunities
Boyle County Habitat for Humanity (BCHFH) is in need of new volunteers in three areas. The first is a substitute for the office manager once a week. The second is people who are willing to coach and look after the present and future homeowners via the Family Support Committee. The third is a replacement for the Treasurer. This position requires computer skills, knowledge of finance and accounting and familiarity with QuickBooks. These are immediate opportunities. Volunteer at Ephraim McDowell Hospital this fall! If you are interested in volunteering at the hospital, please plan to attend a mandatory volunteer training session on Monday, Sept. 10, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in Olin 124. Volunteers needed for the 150th Anniversary celebration of the Battle of Perryville! Centre students are needed to help register civil war re-enactors during the evening hours October 4-6. Specific volunteer shifts are listed below, and interested students can contact Joni House (joan.house@ky.gov) with the Perryville Battlefield Association.

Volunteers needed for the KY State BBQ Festival! Centre students are needed to help sell t-shirts and soft drinks during the upcoming Kentucky BBQ festival, Saturday, Sept. 8 and Sunday, Sept. 9. Proceeds from this exciting and delicious event will benefit the Heart of Kentucky United Way. Volunteers can contact Myrna Miller (sugarbearmm@bellsouth.net) with their interest and availability.

Paid driver needed. An elderly member of the Presbyterian Church is looking for someone to drive her and her granddaughter to church. She's willing to pay $25 each Sunday.
