Meetings / Gatherings

Sundays. Get Centred A contemplative Christian worship service in the candlelit sanctuary of the Presbyterian Church every Sunday night. The half hour of scripture, prayer, music and silent reflection is open to all students, staff and faculty. Time: 10 p.m. For more information, see the Get Centred Facebook page.

Wednesday, Sept. 19. Biology Seminar. Dr. Jackie Fetherston from the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics at the University of Kentucky will give a seminar on "Metal ion transporters and their role in the pathogenesis of Yersinia pestis". Time/Place: 4 p.m., JVAC 201. All are invited to attend.

Thursday, Sept. 20. Debate Law Enforcement Forums. Centre will welcome Mark Coleman of the U.S. Secret Service and Captain Lisa Rudzinski, Commander of the Richmond Post of the Kentucky State Police, to discuss the role of law enforcement on campus during the Vice Presidential Debate, changes to campus as we prepare for the debate and overall safety during the event. Time/Place: Students: Common Hour, Vahlkamp Theatre. Faculty and Staff: 4 p.m., Vahlkamp Theatre.

Thursday, September 27. Pizza and Politics. Faculty from the Government and International Studies programs are sponsoring a series of informal panel discussions on the 2012 presidential election. The next will focus on domestic policy issues (taxes, healthcare, etc.) in the Romney and Obama campaigns. Come with your questions! Pizza available on a first-come-first-serve basis! Time/Place: Common Hour, 11:30-12:30, in Crounse 468.
The third and fourth “Pizza and Politics” events for the fall semester will be on Oct. 25th and Nov 8th, details TBA.

Volunteer Opportunities
Join the Debates! 200 Centre students are needed to serve as facilitators for online video discussions with high school students following each Presidential Debate. Students will be trained to facilitate discussions via Google Hangouts with up to 10 high school students from around the world, processing the content of each Debate and the issues covered in each debate. Interested students should register using the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/JoinTheDebates. Questions can be directed to patrick.noltemeyer@centre.edu.

Miscellaneous

If you would like to be placed on a babysitter list – please email your name and contact telephone number to anita.bertram@centre.edu. This list would be provided to Centre and Danville community members upon request.

Dress Code for volunteers in area classrooms. Dress professionally in khakis or dress pants (no denim, no shorts, no short skirts) and in a button down or collared blouse or shirt (no transparent clothing, no revealed undergarments, no spaghetti straps or muscle tops). Appropriate footwear for the classroom includes sneakers, dress shoes or sandals, NOT flip flops. For more complete field experience dress guidelines, please contact Professor Sarah Murray (5376) or Dean Glazier-McDonald (beth.glazier@centre.edu).
