During homecoming festivities in 2005, plans were announced for the construction of a new residence hall. In August 2008, Pearl Hall opened its doors for Centre students as the College's newest housing option. Dedication of the building will take place during homecoming festivities October 2009. A groundbreaking ceremony for Pearl Hall was held in April 2007. Construction on the three-floor facility, which is located on Main Street, began in May 2007 after commencement. Nearly 94 percent of Centre's approximately 1,215 students live in campus housing. Pearl Hall, which houses 146 students, gives more students the chance to easily participate in extracurricular activities: the College offers more than 2,000 yearly campus events and around 100 clubs, teams and groups. Pearl Hall was built with a gift from Centre trustee Robert Brockman '63. The residence hall is named in memory of Brockman's mother and grandmother, who were both named Pearl. |
