Run for cover!

Students in the "Physical Science of Volcanoes" CentreTerm course visited the active volcano on White Island in the Bay of Plenty off the coast of the North Island of New Zealand. Hard hats and gas masks were required on the trip. In addition to visiting White Island, students climbed nine other volcanoes, including a climb to the crater lake on 2796-meter Mt. Ruapehu, visited three caldera volcanoes and saw numerous thermal features such as hot springs, mud pots and geysers.
