Centre connections across the globe
Dr. Paul Sikkel, visiting assistant professor of biology, and two of his students, Ben Weldon '08 and Whitney Sears '10, traveled to the U.S. Virgin Islands this summer to conduct research on coral reef fishes. Randy Kell '69, vice chair of Centre's Board of Trustees, treated the three to a day at his home overlooking the Caribbean Sea at the mouth of Coral Bay on St. John. The group was also treated to dinner at Hull Bay Hideaway, Kell's restaurant on St. Thomas. Before going to Kell's house, the group, along with the Earthwatch volunteers who were part of the research team, attended an art workshop with Sloop Jones, a popular St. John artist, who lives near Kell.
Ben Tuttle '10 and Eric Brown '09, not pictured, also participated in the research. The group spent two weeks on St. Thomas, a month and a half on St. John and five days on Guana Island conducting field studies. They also had the opportunity to tour other islands such as Tortola and Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands.
