The “Corner Effect”

Andrew Howard ’13 recently spent five weeks studying abroad in Berlin, Germany, with the KIIS (Kentucky Institute for International Studies) Program. This trip was funded through the James Graham Brown Foundation (as part of Howard’s Brown fellowship, which provides full tuition at Centre, room and board, four summer enrichment opportunities and more). “While my trip emphasized the history of Nazi Germany, this particular panorama photo captures the Eastside Gallery, a preserved section of the Berlin Wall that artists have sectioned off and used as murals,” he says. “By utilizing the panorama feature of my camera, I created an optical illusion. This is, in fact, a straight stretch of wall; however, by combining different angles of the same section, I created a ‘corner effect.’”
