Visiting the Shaman
For one of the classes offered in Merida, Mexico, during the spring term of Centre-in-the-Yucatan, the students were asked to research a specific topic of Maya culture they find interesting. One group chose to study the relationship between Mayan medicinal practices of pre-colonial times and those used today. Above, Liz Hart ’13 and Mary-Taylor Kersey ’13 visit with a local Maya shaman, or spiritual curer, whom they interviewed for their project.
