Tree Tribute

  • Recent Centre graduate Amanda Stovall captured a final photo of the historic American Beech tree outside Young Hall (the tree, in fact, that dictated the way in which Centre planned for the construction of the building). Sadly, the tree has died, despite efforts to preserve it during the Young Hall construction, through the droughts of the past two years and after the damaging ice storm in January 2009. The tree will be honored with some exhibits in Young Hall. Campus arborist Don Good estimates her age at nearly 200 years, and one idea involves cutting a cross-section and then marking her rings with key events in Centre history.

Photo submissions. To submit a photo for consideration on this page, e-mail Elizabeth Trollinger at elizabeth.trollinger@centre.edu with "POW" as the subject, or send a photograph through campus mail to her attention. Be sure to identify the people, location, and event. Any photos relating to the Centre experience, whether taken on campus or off campus, may be submitted. And remember, the more dynamic and original the shot, the better. If you’re sending a digital photo, be sure to send the picture at the highest resolution possible.

Video submissions. To submit a video for consideration on this page, send a CD with your video in Quicktime format to Elizabeth Trollinger through campus mail. The video must be between 30 and 60 seconds at the highest resolution possible, and can either be raw footage or edited. Remember, the more dynamic and interesting the clip, the better.

Note: photos and videos submitted may be used elsewhere on the College’s website, in publications, or in other Centre communications.
