Professor Chris Haskett receives grant from American Academy of Religion

Christian Haskett Headshot 2014Dr. Christian Haskett, assistant professor of religion at Centre College, has been awarded a $4,340 grant from the American Academy of Religion for collaborative international research.

templeWith this funding, Dr. Haskett will work in collaboration with Dr. Rana P.B. Singh of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) to further the study of Hindu temples and shrines.

In addition, the award will fund three graduate student assistants from BHU as translators to assist Haskett and two Centre students traveling in India as they map the location of Hindu shrines. The grant will also cover the GPS mapping equipment that will make this possible.

Haskett has a Ph.D. in Languages and Cultures of Asia from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has worked extensively in India. Dr. Singh has written approximately 15 books and 200 articles on the Indian city of Varanasi and geography.
