Stanley Willard named External Relations Coordinator for Centre Athletics

Stanley WillardStanley Willard joined Centre College Athletics as the new external relations coordinator on Aug. 1. Willard most recently worked as a marketing and promotions coordinator at Fordham University in New York.

The external relations coordinator position was created after the College’s successful application to obtain a grant through the NCAA Division III Ethnic Minorities and Women’s Internship Grant Program. Willard was hired for the two-year position at the conclusion of a nationwide search.

“We were thrilled to learn that the NCAA selected Centre for this prestigious grant program, allowing us to create and fill an important and impactful position,” said Andrew Gavin ’06, associate athletic director for advancement and external relations. “We were even more ecstatic to welcome Stanley to our team. He rose to the top of a competitive pool of candidates because his experiences, talents and personality make him an ideal fit to excel in this role. We look forward to watching Stanley impact our department, campus and community during his tenure at Centre.”

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Willard was a Division III football student-athlete at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He has also obtained a master’s degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

“I would like to thank Brad Fields, Andrew Gavin and the rest of the search committee for this wonderful and unique opportunity,” Willard said. “I look forward to engaging the students of Centre College and working with the Danville community as the external relations coordinator for Centre College Athletics.”

In his position, Willard will help develop and execute the marketing and promotions strategy and efforts for the department’s 23 programs. He will be charged with implementing initiatives to improve awareness of athletics events on campus and in the community and enhancing the gameday experience for fans and student-athletes.

Willard will serve as a key member of the department’s external relations team, assisting with community engagement and outreach, advancement and alumni relations, and social media.

“It is truly an exciting time to be part of the Colonel family, and there is a wealth of opportunity to further enhance the game day atmosphere across all sports,” Willard said. “Bolstering our marketing and promotional efforts will not only build excitement for Centre Athletics but will also go a long way to assure our Colonels have an engaging crowd to support them.
