Centre Action Reaches Everyone

Centre Action Reaches Everyone (C.A.R.E.), Centre’s largest, umbrella service organization, coordinates volunteer opportunities open to all students. The C.A.R.E. Leadership Team, a dedicated group of Centre students, works with an extensive group of Community Partners in the Danville/Boyle County area to facilitate large group service activities like the Fall Service Plunge, Read Across America Day, and campus blood drives, described below.

If you are interested in making a positive difference in our community, C.A.R.E. is your first step to doing just that! To get involved, sign up at the EXPO table in the fall, or e-mail Patrick Noltemeyer, Associate Dean and Director of Community Service and the Bonner Program to find out about upcoming volunteer events!

Upcoming C.A.R.E. Events

Fall Service Plunge | August 27, 2011

Part of New Student Orientation, this annual event kicks each year off with a focus on service and civic engagement. More than 350 students, faculty, and staff partner with a variety of community agencies in Centre’s largest service event of the year. Students build houses with Habitat, clear trash from local streams, and help organize items at local shelters.

Blood Drives | September 19, 2011; November 21, 2011; February 13, 2012; April 16, 2012

In cooperation with the Kentucky Blood Center, students help to save lives in our area by donating blood.

C.A.R.E. Trick or Treat | October 27, 2011 - 5 - 7 pm

Celebrate Halloween with children from our local community, and the Centre faculty and staff with Centre’s Trick or Treat block party - one of the largest service events of the year! Students dress up in costume and host activity booths and haunted houses for the kids!

Poverty & Homelessness Awareness Week | November 12-19, 2011

In cooperation with the Office of Religious Life, C.A.R.E. takes a week in November to raise Centre’s awareness of poverty and homelessness issues – and to take action. Volunteers spend time at homeless shelters and collect thousands of canned goods for local food banks.

Salvation Army Angel Tree Program | December 2011

In cooperation with the local Salvation Army, C.A.R.E. facilitates the opportunity for students to make the holiday season a brighter one for kids in our community.

Bell Ringing Program | December 2011

In support of one of our strongest Community Partners, the Salvation Army, C.A.R.E. coordinates students to ring the bell and collect donations in front of local businesses for three days each December. The Danville/Boyle County bell ringing program is one of a very few in the nation staffed purely by volunteers.

L.I.F.T. (Learning is Fun Together) | February-March 2012

For the past fourteen years, C.A.R.E., in cooperation with Centre College Education Majors, hosts an on-campus educational enrichment program for fourth and fifth graders in Danville and Boyle County, focusing on a different subject each spring.

Read Across America Day | March 2, 2012

A nationwide event in celebration of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, on Read Across America Day C.A.R.E. places a college student in each area elementary school classroom to read for an hour and share the joy of reading with the next generation.

Bowl For Kids' Sake | Spring 2012

In support of Big Brothers Big Sisters, C.A.R.E. coordinates student teams to raise money by getting per pin sponsors and bowling one Sunday afternoon in March. This event raises close to $8,000.00 annually to support the work of this community partner.

Spring Service Plunge | April 2012

Building on the success of the Fall Service Plunge, this event provides a wide range of community projects in which all students can participate during one Saturday in the spring.
