Service Learning and Community-Based Research
Exciting opportunities exist for you to engage in experiential learning through service. Spend your free time helping others in our community!
C.A.R.E. (Centre Action Reaches Everyone) is Centre's umbrella volunteer service organization. The student group serves as a liaison between Centre's campus and the Danville/Boyle County area by providing an extensive variety of opportunities for giving for Centre students, faculty, and staff. C.A.R.E. members plan a number of major service projects each year. In addition to working on those projects, members volunteer on a regular basis at the Humane Society, the Danville Adult Education and Literacy Center, the Recycling Center, Ephraim McDowell Hospital, local nursing homes, and the Salvation Army. Members also work with after-school programs, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and numerous other activities.
Spend your summer serving others and developing leadership skills that will enhance your ability to contribute at Centre and beyond. Opportunities exist locally and across the nation! This Web site includes links to searchable databases of experiential internships and volunteer opportunities as well.
Experiential learning through service doesn’t just happen outside of class. Many courses at Centre have a community-based learning component, in which students engage in service activities designed to supplement and reinforce their academic studies.
