games and just get to know each other. We've learned some great things about Chinese culture, the small things that you don't get in a textbook or lecture. They're very friendly, too, always offering to take us out to see Shanghai or telling us to give them a call if we need any help. Things like this are what have made the last month of settling in so neat.

There have been some cool events in the last month. A few

weeks ago, I and the other Centre student here, Julie Baer, got to participate in a dragon boat race. That was a blast!

Eighteen universities from Shanghai organized a dragon boat race specifically for their international exchange students. It was really neat to see foreign students from all over the world come together to compete. We left early on a Saturday morning and took a bus for about an hour to the outskirts of
