| Phyllis Bellver joined the faculty at Centre College in 1998 and became an assistant professor of language in 2003. In 2005 she received the Kirk Award for excellence in teaching, and has been active in promoting service-learning in the community as part of the Centre instructional program.
Bellver had prior teaching experience at The University of Colorado at Boulder. She received a Fulbright Scholarship for research in Spain on Basque grammar and advanced study in the Basque language. She has been published scholarly articles in Colorado Research in Linguistics and the Proceedings of the Berkeley Linguistics Society. She directed the Centre-in-Mexico study adroad program in Merida, the Yucatan, in fall 2002, and led a CentreTerm trip to Spain to study Spanish politics and regionalism in January 2005.
Bellver earned B.A. and M.A. degrees at the University of Nevada - Las Vegas and an M.A. and a Ph.D. in linguistics at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
