John Farris is founder and president of both Farris Capital LLC and Commonwealth Economics LLC. From 2006 to 2007 he was secretary of the Finance and Administration Cabinet for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, where he oversaw the collection, investment, and distribution of more than $8 billion in annual tax revenue.
He began his career as an economist at the Center for Economics Research at the Research Triangle Institute and later served as senior economics consultant with the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation. He is also a Series 65 Licensed Registered Investment Advisor.
His research interests include the value of the dollar, the fall of the capital asset pricing model, and the rise of the absolute return.
At Centre he teaches theory of investments and corporate finance.
He earned an M.P.A. from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs in 1999, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Centre in 1995 with a B.S. in economics and philosophy.
