Heather Hindman came to Centre in 2004. Previously, she was visiting assistant professor of
anthropology/sociology and international studies at Denison University.
Hindman earned her B.A. in religious studies and theater arts at Reed College. She earned her M.A. in the history of religion and her Ph.D. in the history of culture at the University of Chicago. Her dissertation was titled Stability in Motion: Expatriate Women in Kathmandu, Nepal. Her research interests are globalization, elite culture, science and technology studies, history of anthropology, military culture and conceptualization. She has done much of her research in Kathmandu, Nepal. Hindman is proficient in Nepali, and also speaks Newari. She has reading proficiency in Sanskrit, German, and Latin. Hindman's essays have been published in South Asia Newsletter, The Himalayan Studies Bulletin, Chicago Anthropology Exchange, Journal of Multilingual and Multicultural Development, andStudies in Nepali Society and History. Hindman recently completed an article focusing on art consumption and transnational culture and is finishing a book entitled At Home in
Expatria.
