| In 2005 Bill Johnston was named Stodghill Professor of Mathematics. He is associate dean at Centre College, where he joined the faculty in 1988.
Johnston has chaired the mathematics department and has created several new mathematics courses on game theory, decision-making, and applied mathematics. He has held leadership positions, serving on the steering committee for reaccreditation.
During 1996, Johnson helped launch an innovative collaboration between Centre and the Kentucky School for the Deaf. Centre students in mathematics, economics, and computer science had the opportunity to create on-line bargaining games and to serve as electronic mentors for KSD students.
Johnston has published several articles in professional journals and made presentations at national math conferences. He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Wake Forest and holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Virginia.
