| Jane Joyce is a professor of classics at Centre College, where she has taught since 1978. She has held the Luellen Professorship in Literature since 2002.
A classical scholar with wide-ranging interests, Joyce regularly teaches classes in Latin language and literature, ancient epic and lyric poetry, Greco-Roman drama, classical mythology and creative writing. She played a key role in establishing Centre's major in the classics and has played a leadership role in the college's humanities program.
Her translation of Lucan's Pharsalia was published by Cornell University Press (1993), and she has translated Catullus' lyrics for a collection of Latin literature. Joyce is the author of Beyond the Blue Mountains, a narrative sequence of poems that has been presented several times at Centre in a readers' theatre. She also has published The Quilt Poems (Mill Springs Press, 1984 and 1986, and Gnomon Press, 1991).
Joyce has been honored at Centre with the designation as a Distinguished Professor of Humanities.
She holds a B.A. from Bryn Mawr College and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in classics from the University of Texas at Austin.
