Goldwater Scholarship

Background. The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program was established by Congress in 1986 to foster and encourage superior achievement in science and mathematics. Goldwater Scholarships are the premier awards for undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering.

Requirements. A student who is currently a sophomore or junior and ranks in the upper fourth of his or her class may apply; Centre College may nominate up to four students for the scholarship each year. The awards apply to tuition, fees, books, and room and board, up to a maximum of $7,500 annually.

Students interested in applying for the Goldwater Scholarship should contact the Centre Goldwater Scholarship representative (
Dr. Phil Lockett) no later than December 1.
