My drama class continues to enlighten me. I didn't expect to get so much fulfillment out of it because I have never enjoyed the theatre as I have on this trip. Steven Dykes, our professor, an Englishman, is completely brilliant. I can watch a performance and get something from it, but then in the next class after the performance, he will completely open my mind in a new way. It has truly been an enlightening experience and a class the likes of which I've only had several times in my life. I think I will continue to be a regular in the theatre upon my return home, but I doubt it will be as good as a performance staged by the English. Theatre is truly part of the heart and soul of English culture.
My fourth and final class is an independent study I've chosen to take on using the resources available to me in London. I'm doing a study on classical mythology, based primarily out of Ovid's Metamorphoses, but I've also used some paintings at the British National Gallery in one of my papers and I plan to incorporate some more artwork into later projects. The work I do for the class will not terminate with the end of the program on April 23, but rather at the same time as my comrades back in Danville, so I'll be doing some more work for it once I return home. |
