Our friend Sho eventually explained that we had walked into a fitting for graduation kimonos, but I’m still pretty sure the women just picked us for fun. Even with the explanation, every time I look at the pictures of us in kimonos I can’t help but laugh. It’s not hard to read the thoughts plastered across our bewildered faces: how often is this sort of thing going to happen in Japan?

So far, the answer seems to be “often,” and I sincerely hope it stays this way. The strange moments are definitely the most fun!
