showing us around the site. I think the only low point of the trip was the ten-minute period in a wooded area when we were attacked by a swarm of nickel-sized mosquitos. (Good thing most of us take malaria pills, eh?)
When we’re not in classes or experiencing the many wonders of the city, we spend time at home with our host families. My mamá and papá, Angelita and Fernando, are very kind and laid-back. Also in my house live two girls, Julieta and Diana, who work and study here in Mérida. I’ve gotten to be |

good friends with Julieta. Mamá and Papá have three kids and three grandkids, who visit often. It’s a neat experience to live with another family, and a key element of the Mérida program.
This Sunday, our group will leave on our second big trip, to the Mexican state of Oaxaca. I can’t wait to see what adventures await us there!
