Eventually, we got back on the road and got to be very familiar with our bus over the next twenty hours – it’s amazing how one manages to find comfortable ways to sleep in a 3’x2’ space.  Finally, we arrived in Oaxaca City, and after a brief descanso (rest), we went directly to Monte Albán, a Zapotec ruins site overlooking the city.  It was, naturally, absolutely gorgeous, and I made good use of the panorama feature on my digi-cam.

Tuesday was a busy day for the group.  We began in Mitla, another ruins site.  There was a small market there, so we “had some minutes there for that purpose” (as Miguel Mendez says), and I was privy to the opinions of several vendors over my América fútbol jersey – some people here are very touchy about their favorite soccer team.  I tried to tell them that I just bought the jersey because the team sponsor, Bimbo (a bread company), is written across the front.  (Isn’t that funny?  I sure thought so.)
