Mérida Musings 6: Celestún and Xmatkuil

This past week has been a memorable one, for several reasons.  It’s a given that every week in Mexico is unforgettable, but this week especially will stick out in my mind, for both positive and not-so-positive reasons.  It was a little tough on some of us because one of our classmates, due to a family emergency, had to return home (to the United States!) for several days.  We were sad, and it was weird to observe the void that it left in our tight-knit group.

However, there were several fun and unique activities that I did this week.  Namely, I went to see the new Harry Potter movie at the theater in Gran Plaza, the mall here. (The movie, incidentally, is called Harry Potter y el Cáliz de Fuego in Spanish.)  It was shown with Spanish subtitles, and I was interested to note that most of the humor actually seemed
to translate.

A couple of weeks ago, I decided to make a list of the top things I want to do before I leave Mexico.  Since then, I’ve been steadily trying to tick those off of the list – and I’m happy to report that this week I accomplished two items: I visited Celestún and Xmatkuil.
