Perhaps the most difficult aspect of living in a foreign country is that of communication. That being said, our language of choice tends to be "Spanglish": “Hey, I don’t recuerdo how much the agua is here,” or “Ooh, música. Does anyone want to bailar?” Our Spanish skills are in fact improving quickly.
I am rather proud of those students in our group who arrived in Mérida with very little Spanish ability but can already carry on conversations (albeit somewhat stilted) with cab drivers and store owners.
