"The holidays in the Yucatan"

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Lights are going up, kids are walking around in snowsuits, sappy Christmas commercials are urging me to buy the latest cologne, and it’s even cold!

I’m sure all of you at home just groaned and rolled your eyes. All right, I admit, it’s not cold (objectively speaking), but it’s a lot colder (relatively speaking) than it was a few weeks ago. The true test is whether of it’s cold or not is if I can walk the entire mile and a half from school to my home with my sweater on; let’s just say that this last week I’ve been living in my sweater.

It’s quite funny to see the Yucatecan’s reactions to this “cold” weather. My “mom” makes sure I button up before I venture out into the frigid 75 degree weather; people are walking around in thick cable-knit sweaters and have their children bundled up in parkas. Yes, even all of us Centre students have pulled out the sweaters and jackets. Welcome to winter in the Yucatan!
