Classes are continuing their headlong rush towards the finish line. Even so, we still had time for another quick lesson in Mayan. This time we learned how to say bix a beel (Hello) and Bak’ kin konik te’e k’iíwiko’ (I sell meat in the plaza). We also learned that if the word is new (more recent than the conquest) than we can just substitute the Spanish word for it. For example, ¿bajux jun’p’éel computadora?, which means

How much does a computer cost? We also learned a cute song about black pigs. I now feel completely prepared to hold a conversation with a Mayan speaker (as long as they speak slowly and I can have my notes in front of me).

I’m off to Cuba!!!
