One of the more important things Ive learned here in Mérida is how to successfully navigate the extensive bus system. For my final project in humanities, I decided to learn even more about the bus system, so this week I decided to follow a bus driver around for a day. My victim was Ivan who has been a bus driver for eleven years. Feeling not unlike a child who has decided to ride an elevator all day, I accompanied Ivan as he traversed his route four complete times. Not only was I able to learn the intricacies of the route and could probably successfully navigate it myself without getting lost, but also I got to meet and spend a day with a very interesting man whom I never would have met otherwise. Hopefully, I will be able to see Ivan again before we have to leave.
