The second day of the fair was dedicated
to societies at Reading. Once again, the selection was huge. Some
of the unusual clubs I noticed were the Anime club, amnesty club,
and the jazz club. I, myself, joined the equal opportunities club
that basically deals with gender inequality with regards to both
males and females. At the moment, we are working on a campaign pushing
the awareness of breast and testicular cancer.
I also joined
a club that deals with fair trade coffee, and we are currently trying
to make Reading a fair trade campus, which basically means that
the University will only serve fair trade coffee. If you ask me,
all college campuses should do this. This particular group also
works with Greenpeace, and this last Saturday several students went
to a grocery store in Slough where they dressed up in cow costumes
and handed out organic milk to customers. I was highly tempted to
go since dressing up as a cow always sounds like good fun.

And
speaking of good fun . . . here's another silly American moment
that happened to one of our illustrious Centre students. I won't
give his name, but he was the same one who made the comment about
the driver being in the back of the bus. A
few Centre students were in a pub when one of our guys accidentally
set a stool down on a British guy's foot. You should keep in mind
that this student happens to have a strong southern accent and has
a light complexion. The conversation roughly went like this:
Centre student:
"I'm so sorry! Are you alright?"
British guy: "Oh, I'm fine, thanks."
CS: "Sorry, I'm just a silly American."
BG: "Yeah, I could tell by your accent. You're from the south,
right?"
CS: "No, no. I'm from North America, thanks."
Well, we thought it was amusing, and we certainly didn't let him
live that down.
