Lesson Seven: Get involved and stay informed

If you get a chance, check out what is going on in Turkish politics.  Turkey is about to invade Iraq to suppress the Kurdish rebels under the leadership of the PKK, a semi-autonomous group that has caused the Turkish government much stress since its establishment. The United States and other Western countries are discouraging Turkey from an invasion, but Turkey is tired of being doormat. The government is attempting to assert itself, and unfortunately this might not be the best outlet for them to do so. Many Turkish soldiers have been murdered over the years and in an increasing amount recently, but more violence is probably not the solution for long-term peace.
