Lesson Nine: Downtime is not wasted time
While I felt that I spent most of the week in my room, I enjoyed the company of many friends throughout the week. At Ryan’s apartment, I made chocolate chip cookies. Ryan, Jennica, and I were craving a taste of America, so we collected ingredients as close as possible to the recipe (Turkish groceries do not carry the same ingredients like chocolate chips that we enjoy in the states!) and crossed our fingers once the cookies were in the oven.

Surprisingly, they were phenomenal, despite estimated conversions and makeshift ingredients. Ahh, we were in a state of euphoria!
As a culmination to the relaxing and semi-uneventful week, I traveled to Safranbolu on Saturday. The old Ottoman town maintains much of its historical character through the preservation of the homes, bazaar, hamam (Turkish bath), and blacksmith shops.
