Centre's Moore receives another honor
After earning several other awards this year, Centre senior baseball player Eric Moore (Bowling Green, Ky.) has added yet another to his collection as he was named to the 2007 American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Division III All-South Region Honorable Mention Team.
The All Region selection process recognizes the top 50 players within each region around the country, and Moore was one of 13 players from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference to be recognized.
The senior first baseman for the Colonels recently became only the ninth player in SCAC history to be named to the All-SCAC 1st Team all four years, and the first from an Eastern Division school in league history. Along with the SCAC recognition, he was also named Centre's Most Valuable Player for the fourth straight year.
Moore led the Colonels in average (.399), hits (57), doubles (16), runs batted in (42), total bases (86), slugging percentage (.601), on-base percentage (.480), putouts (315) and tied for the team lead in walks (19). The four-year starter finished his career fifth in conference history with a .413 career-batting average and became only the 16th player in SCAC history to record 200 career-hits. A 2004 All-South Region selection, Moore leaves Centre holding seven school records.
Arguably one of the best players in Centre history to put on a baseball uniform, his accomplishments off the field are just as impressive. The four-year letter winner was named to the ESPN The Magazine All-District 1st Team this year and was also named one of Centre's Co-Male Athlete's of the Year following his senior year. Entering his senior year, he has been named to the SCAC Academic Honor Roll three times and has a chance to earn his fourth this year when the Honor Roll is release later this summer.
Centre finished the 2007 season with a 17-25 overall record and a 7-8 mark in the SCAC. The Colonels qualified for the conference tournament for the first time in eight years and won only its second conference tournament game in the 16-year history of the SCAC.
