Moore and Williams recognized by CoSIDA

Centre College baseball players Eric Moore (Bowling Green, Ky.) and Jeffrey Williams (Knoxville, Tenn.) have chosen to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District baseball teams for their efforts in both the classroom and on the baseball field.

The two individuals were selected to the District 4 College Division teams by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Moore was selected to the first team while Williams was selected to the second team.

Moore, a three-time first team All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) selection on the field and a three-time Academic All-SCAC member in the classroom entering his senior year, has posted a 3.39 cumulative grade-point average as a history major going into his final semester. The senior first baseman has been on the Dean's List (3.6 or higher) three times and was recently named a Centre College Co-Male Athlete-of-the-Year.

Moore was a unanimous selection as one of the team's tri-captains his senior year and went on to hit .399 in 42 games with 57 hits, including 16 doubles, two triples and three home runs, while driving in 42 runs and scoring 30 more.

Williams, a sophomore designated hitter for the Colonels, was selected to the second team after posting a 3.53 grade point average as a pre-med student majoring in philosophy. Williams has already made the Dean's List once in his young career and has also earned Academic All-SCAC status in his only full year.

A full-time starter for the first time in 2007, Williams hit .352 in 38 games, leading Centre with 37 runs scored and 15 hit by pitches. He also had 43 hits, including his first career home run and drove in 17 runs, mostly from the leadoff spot.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in both undergrad and graduate work. He/she must also have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her institution and must have completed at lease one full academic year at his/her institution. Nominated student-athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games in his/her primary position.

Moore and Williams were two of only six baseball players from the SCAC to be named to the teams. Millsaps College was the only other conference school to have more than one selected as they also had two named to the team.

Centre finished the 2007 season with a 17-25 overall record and a 7-8 mark in the SCAC. The Colonels qualified for the conference tournament for the first time in eight years and won only its second conference tournament game in the 16-year history of the SCAC.
