Centre shutout by Piedmont College The Centre College baseball team was shutout by Piedmont College Tuesday, March 20 at Loudermilk Field in Demorest Georgia. The Colonels lost to the Lions 5-0 in the third game of a week long road trip. Centre had trouble getting on the bases as they only had a total of four hits the whole game. Piedmont got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth when it posted three runs. The Lions then continued to keep the Colonels scoreless through tough pitching and good fielding. Piedmont increased its lead in the bottom of the seventh when they added two more runs, bringing its total 5.
Senior Andy Placido (Nicholasville, Ky.) started for Centre and pitched six innings. He allowed five runs on six hits and had four strikeouts. Junior Jarrod Williams (Carrollton, Ky.) replaced Placido in the middle of the seventh. Williams came away with one strikeout and no hits.
The Centre bats had troubled getting hits in the game. Piedmont struck out five Centre batters. Junior Ben Jeffers (New Albany, Ohio), senior Eric Moore (Bowling Green, Ky.), sophomore Brandon Rosen (Ashland, Ky.) and freshmen Kai Leathers (Franklin, Ky.) were the only Centre players to have hits.
Centre, 6-8, continues it's road trip and plays 19th-ranked Emory University Wednesday, March 21 starting at 3:00 pm at Chappell Park in Atlanta Georgia. |
