Centre drops road game to Thomas More College

The Centre College baseball team played Thomas More College, Tuesday April 10 at Champions Window Field in Florence, Kentucky. The Colonels lost to the Saints 10-3 over nine innings. Thomas More had a late rally in the final innings to put Centre behind.

The Saints took their first run in the bottom of the first. They were also able to keep the Colonels shutout in the first three innings. Centre was able to get on the board in the top of the fourth. Senior Eric Moore (Bowling Green, Ky.) bombed his second home run of the year to get the Colonels going and tie the game. Thomas More pulled away in the bottom of the fifth however, as it brought in three runs to make the score 4-1. It brought it's lead to five in the bottom of the sixth after two more runs came in.

Centre scored in the top of the seventh to begin to close the gap. Senior Andy Placido (Nicholasville, Ky.) sacrificed an out to get sophomore Brandon Rosen (Ashland, Ky.) across the plate. Thomas More claimed the game in the bottom of the inning when it scored four more runs. Centre brought in it's final run in the top of the ninth as junior Ben Jeffers (New Albany, Ohio) drove home Placido.

Junior Jarrod Williams (Carrollton, Ky.) started on the mound for Centre. He pitched the first four innings allowing four runs off seven hits. He also struck out three batters. He was replaced by senior Lance Sizmore (Batavia, Ohio). Sizmore pitched for two innings and allowed six runs off seven hits. Senior Johnny Karnes (Labanon, Ky) came in to finish the game. He pitched the last inning and allowed one hit.

Five Centre players had hits in the game. Jeffers and Rosen both had multiple hits games.

Centre, 11-19, will return to the home diamond to play local rival Transylvania University Wednesday, April 11 at Wright Field in Danville, Ky starting at 7pm.
